Zoological study of a mandrill Mandrillus sphinx native to Africa, shown in profile and walking on all fours. Behind is a forest and mountain landscape. Plate 17 from The natural history of monkeys, by Sir William Jardine (Edinburgh, 1833) The Naturalist's Library. Mammalia. Vol.1. Referred to in the text as "The Mandril or Rib-nose baboon". The plate is inscribed: "PLATE 17. PAPIO MORMON. Lizars sc."
