Lumpfish

Ichthyological study of a pyramidal sucker or lumpfish, Cyclopterus lumpus, here syled Lumpus anglorum, in full right profile.

Printed inscription: ‘Lumpus Anglorum/ Tab. N. 11. Sumptibus Ed: Tyson. M:D: e. S:R.’ with further handwritten annotation ‘The Lump or Sea Crole. Scotis Cock Paddle/ Lepus Marinus nostras Schonfeldy’. Numbered ‘98’ in the top right-hand corner.

Francis Willughby (1635-1672), British naturalist, was an Original Fellow of the Royal Society.

John Ray (1627-1705), British naturalist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1667.

Edward Tyson (1651 - 1708), British physician and anatomist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1679.
