The accompanying text is headed: ‘Table XXII. De la Poussière de ‘Hyacinthe bleue.’ The author comments that: ‘J m’acquite de la Parole, que j’ai donnée il-y-a quelque tems, en répétant sur l’Hyancinthe bleue, Fleur très commune, ce que j’ai remarque sur la Generation des Plantes dans la Description de l’Arum. Pour cet Effet a) présente cette Fleur dans sa Grandeur naturelle, avec un Reservoir à Fruit b) don’t les Feuilles ou le Calice est tombé, & qui contient les Graines de Semance…’
[I am keeping my word, which I gave some time ago, repeating for the very common flower the blue Hyancinth, what I noticed about plant generation in the description of the Arum. For this: a) the flower is presented at its natural size, with a fruit reservoir b) with the outer petals fallen, containing grains of seeds…].
Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
