‘Red loasa’
Botanical study of the Red loasa Loasa lateritia. The plant is native to South America. The plate shows flowers and leaves.
Plate 22 from Edwards’s botanical register…edited by John Lindley, new series v.1, (London, James Ridgway and Sons, 1838). The plate is inscribed ‘22’ above; and below ‘Miss Drake del. Pub by J. Ridgway, 169 Piccadilly Ap. 1 1838. S. Watts sc.’
In the associated text, the author describes the plant as: ‘A fine climbing species of this striking genus, remarkable for its orange red or bright brick-coloured flowers…It was first sent me by Mr. Veitch of the Mount Radford Nursery, near Exeter, in October, 1837…’"
