About

On the gruelling land journey back to Fort Enterprise, during which John Franklin and his men were reduced to eating their own boots, they discovered the Wilberforce Falls on the Hood River. John Franklin's expedition of 1819-22 travelled via the Coppermine River to map the Canadian Arctic coast, as part of efforts to find the fabled North-West Passage. Illustration from Narrative of a journey to the shores of the Polar Sea, by John Franklin (London, 1823).
