'Turdus minor cinereo-albus non maculatus', the mock-bird, perched on a branch of 'Cornus mas virginiana flosculis', the dogwood tree (Catesby's identifications; modern scientific names: Mimus polyglottos, the northern mockingbird; Cornus florida, the flowering dogwood). Plate 27 from volume I of The natural history of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, by Mark Catesby (London, 1731). Mark Catesby was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1733.
